PANAMA – The Hackett, Arkansas Hornets used a strong third quarter to enable them to withstand a late charge by the homestanding Panama Razorbacks and down the Hogs 34-27 Friday night at George Ollie Stadium.
Down 14-6 at the half, the Hornets (3-1), or more precisely Hackett’s Hesters, started taking over the third quarter. Hackett quarterback Avery Hester hit Peyton Hester on two touchdown passes, a 47-yarder and a 60-yarder, to go with a 22-yarder to Holton Hester to help Hackett outscoredPanama 20-0 in the period to take a 26-14 lead into the final quarter.
The Razorbacks (2-1) cut their deficit to 26-21 on a 1-yard TD run by Trevor Banhart and an extra point from Hunter Hopkins with 8:22 left in the game.
The Hogs tried for it on fourth down on their next possession but a pass play was dropped by the receiver with 6:16 remaining to play. Hackett took over possession at midfield.
The Hogs will begin District 2A-5 play at 7 p.m. next Friday against the Westville Yellowjackets for this year’s homecoming game.
