HOWE-A 3 by Trey Nation in the final seconds gave Howe a 61-60 win over Idabel’s boys and a split of Saturday’s games involving four teams ranked in the top 20 of their respective classes.
Idabel’s girls scored the final four points in the early contest to take a 68-65 win over the Lady Lions.
Howe’s boys, ranked 16th in Class 2A, trailed 60-58 before Nation sank his basket for the win. The Lions improve to 16-7 while Idabel, ranked eighth in 3A, drops to 11-10.
Michael Dean led Howe with 18 points, Nation added 15 and Haydon Hall scored 12. Jaquevean King led Idabel with 27 points and Tyrone Howell had 23.
Idabel’s girls, 10th in 3A, improve to 14-6, as Howe’s girls, fourth in 2A, fall to 20-4 and had a 12-game winning streak snapped.
Jalei Oglesby led Howe with 24 points. Howe goes to Muldrow Tuesday before hosting a 2A district tournament on Friday and Saturday. Both Howe teams got a bye in the opening round and play the Wetumka/Fort Towson winners Saturday.
