POTEAU—The Poteau Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting on Jan. 23 at the Reynolds Center.
A free lunch will be provided by the Poteau Chamber Commerce. You must RSVP by Jan. 17. The meal consists of meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, roll and chocolate cake.
The guest speaker is Leslie Osborn and the topic is The Oklahoma State Budget and the Politics Behind it.
In 2008 Leslie Osborn was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives, District 47. She was the first female to chair the Judiciary committee of the House, and in December of 2016 she was named the first Republican female chairman of the House Appropriations and Budget Committee.
She received a B.S. in business administration from Oklahoma State University and resides in Mustang. She owned and operated her own business for 22 years selling heavy duty truck parts, Osborn Pick-Up Accessories, and is the mother of two children.
Key achievements in the legislature she has authored and passed:
*Landmark workers compensation reform that changed Oklahoma from a judicial to an administrative system
*passage of Real ID implementation
*implementation of a pay for success program to move 100 women a year out of incarceration and into an intensive therapy and placement program called in Women in Recovery.
Osborn has been State Chairman of the National Federation of Women Legislators. She has also been awarded the Guardian of Small Business Award from the National Federation of Independent Businesses.
The following groups have awarded her their legislator of the year: The OK District Attorneys council, Oklahoma Farm Bureau, the state Chamber of Oklahoma, Freedom Oklahoma, Oklahoma Association for Justice, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, Oklahoma Credit Union association, state sheriff’s association and the Oklahoma state regents of higher education.
