HOWE—Funeral services for Glendon “Johnny” Watkins, 91, of Howe are Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Howe Assembly of God Church with Rev. Daniel Brittain and Rev. Charles Parker officiating.
Burial will follow in the Howe Cemetery, under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.
He was born July 27, 1926 in Heavener to Lewis and Nettie (Caughern) Watkins and passed away Dec. 3, 2017 in Heavener.
Johnny was a retired maintenance supervisor for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, a carpenter, and if there was any work going on he was always known as the “Boss”. He was a member of the Howe Assembly of God Church. Johnny was a veteran of the World War II era. He was a loving father, husband, son, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Johnny will be dearly missed. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Nettie Watkins; his wife, Vernie Watkins; one granddaughter, Jennifer Watkins; and five brothers Lewis“Buck”, Joey “Bill”, Raymond, Paul and H.C. “Slick” Watkins.
Surviving family members are one daughter Edith Hall and husband Larry of Pocola; one son Billy Watkins and wife Wilma of Howe; five grandchildren Ramona Smith of Poteau, Dawn Hill of Howe, Shelley Trotter of Poteau, Kim Wann of Pocola and Janet Estes of Bella Vista, Arkansas; 12 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three half-brothers Jackie, Buck and Jimmy Wadkins; and one half-sister, Janie Dillard; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of many friends.
Pallbearers are Nathan Hill, James Hill, Robert Trotter, Dalton Smith, Tyler Wann, Joshua Smith, Jacob Smith and Bradley Davis.
Viewing is Tuesday and Wednesday from noon until 8:30 p.m., and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until noon.
The family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
