The Howe girls and boys are the top-ranked teams in the Heavener Ledger basketball rankings this week.
Howe’s girls did not play last week while the Lions won the Green Valley Conference Tournament on Saturday by handing Panama its first loss. Since the weekly voting ended Sunday, it does not reflect Howe’s boys losing at Red Oak on Tuesday.
Talihina, the previous No. 1 on the boys’ ranking, lost two games in the Choctaw Nation Invitational Tournament and fell to second.
Spiro’s boys are third. The poll was taken on Sunday and did not reflect Panama’s win at Spiro on Monday night.
Panama is fourth while Whitesboro is fifth, Heavener sixth and Poteau seventh.
For the girls, Pocola remains in second place despite the Lady Indians’ first loss Saturday to 4A power Broken Bow, 42-33, in the finals of the CNIT.
Poteau, which finished second to Hartshorne in the Wilburton Tournament, is third while Talihina moves up from eighth to fourth after defeating Heavener last week and finishing third in the CNIT.
Heavener, which was ranked fourth last week, drops to fifth while Whitesboro’s girls remain sixth.
Each weekly poll comes out Wednesday in the Heavener Ledger and on Thursday on heavenerledger.com
