Holiday basketball tournaments continue Thursday with Heavener, Arkoma and the Howe girls in action.
Heavener is in the Citizens Bank Airedale Classic at Alma, Arkansas while Arkoma is in the Bill Frye Tournament at Mansfield, Arkansas and the Lady Lions are competing in one of the state’s premier tournaments, the Bertha Frank Teague Mid-America Classic at East Central University in Ada.
The 2A fourth-ranked Howe girls play Class 3A No. 8 Beggs at 4:30 p.m. Beggs is only 1-0 as many early games were postponed due to the Demons’ football team making the championship game in football. The bracket can be seen HERE. The Howe-Beggs winner plays the Harrah-Latta winner Friday at 6:30 p.m. Losers of the two games play Friday at 3 p.m.
Other teams in the tournament are Perkins-Tryon, Hammon, Byng and Cashion.
Heavener’s teams get another shot at Acorn, Arkansas. Heavener split its two games Wednesday against Lavaca, Arkansas with the girls winning and the boys losing (see STORY). Both Heavener teams lost their openers to Acorn at the Gary Ford Invitational Tournament at Hartford, Arkansas.
Arkoma’s girls defeated Mulberry, Arkansas in the opening round of the Bill Frye Invitational Tournament at Mansfield, Arkansas on Wednesday (see STORY). The Lady Mustangs take on Hackett at 7 p.m. while the Mustangs open the tournament at 11:30 a.m. against Magazine, Arkansas.
