An 8-year-old Monroe boy died in an UTV accident Thursday at 8:16 p.m. four miles east of Monroe on Old Monroe Highway.
The 2016 Polaris UTV was driven by a 14-year-old male from Monroe. He was driving west when the UTV departed to the right, overcorrected and departed the road to the left. Two of the passengers were ejected while the UTV rolled over on the 8-year-old, pinning him.
He was freed by the other passengers, a 13-year-old from Monroe and a 13-year-old from Waldron, Arkansas. The driver and two other passengers were not injured.
The accident was investigated by Trooper Joshua Blake of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Members of the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Department, LeFlore County EMS and the Department of Wildlife assisted with the accident.
