It’s a day early for most teams, but Week 8 once again has some big games for LeFlore County football teams.
This is fall break and six county teams will be in action Thursday. Heavener has a bye this week while Spiro plays at Antlers on Friday.
Poteau, Panama, Talihina and Arkoma are in the hunt for district championships or playoff spots.
Poteau (6-1, 3-1) hosts Tulsa Rogers (0-7, 0-4) Thursday prior to closing out the season with games at Broken Bow and at home against Hilldale, which is leading 4A-4.
Panama (7-1, 3-1) is in the middle of a crazy district race where every team has one loss already. The Razorbacks host Hugo (2-5, 0-3) which can be a dangerous foe, especially with Spiro coming up next week for Panama.
Talihina is a half game behind Central in its district and the Golden Tigers (7-1, 3-0) host an improving Warner team (1-6, 1-2). Talihina closes with games at Central and against Savanna so the Golden Tigers can’t afford to ease off.
Arkoma (4-3, 1-1) fell at home to Keota last week and visits Cave Springs (4-3, 2-0). The Mustangs must win this one if they hope to finish in the top two and get a home playoff game.
Pocola (1-6, 0-4) visits another struggling team when the Indians travel to Quinton (2-5, 1-3). Both teams are fighting to stay alive in the playoff race, but a loss will likely eliminate the loser.
In the final game Thursday, Bokoshe (1-6, 1-3) visits Sasakwa (2-5, 1-3).
