Another decent, but far from spectacular, week here at the Ledger/LCJ picks last week.
We went 5-2, missing Pocola against Warner and Arkoma at Watts, but only by 48 points.
So no, we are not happy. Pocola loses to a winless team? What in the name of Waddy King happened?
Overall, we’re sitting at 31-14, good for most people, but still a tad odorous compared to the year that was 2016.
We would say this would be the week where we turn everything around, but once again, there’s some tough picks and we’d be happy to finish above .500 this time out.
Where’s the cocky confidence? That’s what we’re wondering. Guess that 3-4 outing a few weeks ago has knocked it away.
It’s time to pick.
HEAVENER AT MULDROW—Another tough one for the Wolves. Eufaula beat Heavener pretty bad two weeks ago. Muldrow did the same to Eufaula last week. Heavener gets a bye next week. I’d like to go with the Wolfies, but…MULDROW 42, HEAVENER 14.
POTEAU AT SALLISAW—Usually one of the better games of the year between these two rivals. Can’t say the same for this year as Sallisaw isn’t all that great. Poteau continues cruising toward showdowns against Broken Bow and Hilldale. POTEAU 48, SALLISAW 28.
PANAMA AT WILBURTON—Hmm, another tough one. Panama is a better football team, but the visiting team does not always get the calls, or a call, while visiting Wilburton. Panama still has a chance to host a playoff game if the Razorbacks can still win. PANAMA 27, WILBURTON 25.
VALLIANT AT SPIRO—Might be the best game of the week. Spiro is undefeated in district play while Valliant has a couple of district losses, but also handed Panama its only loss. We’ll put the over/under on this one at 85. SPIRO 45, VALLIANT 40.
CENTRAL AT POCOLA—Central just handed Gore its first loss. Pocola lost to Warner. Well, this shouldn’t be one of those games we wring our hands over, eh? CENTRAL 28, POCOLA 12.
KEOTA AT ARKOMA—Egad, another tough one. Based on the past, one would say Keota all the way. We picked against Arkoma last week and paid the price. Winner has a good shot at taking the district. ARKOMA 51, KEOTA 47.
PAOLI AT BOKOSHE—The Pugs, as in Paoli Pugs. How could one place any confidence on a team with a nickname of a smallish dog that snores and has trouble breathing? Whoever picked the name Pugs must have had a few beforehand. We probably shouldn’t, but Bokoshe got smoked last week by a team that had not won a game this season. PAOLI 38, BOKOSHE 30.
