Another ho-hum week again here at the Ledger/LCJ picks.
We were 5-2 again last week, losing the Spiro game with Valliant and the Keota and Arkoma game.
We could say in retrospect, those were bad picks, but both teams we picked to win were playing at home and there were a lot of other excuses that could be used.
But like we learned a long time ago, excuses are for losers. That puts the overall record at 36-16, which is plus 20 for those of you who can’t do simple arithmetic.
Not great, but not bad. Another interesting week of picks so without wasting anymore typing, let’s get it started.
TULSA ROGERS AT POTEAU—Can you say blowout? We can, and will. Or, at least write it out. Rogers has not won a game. Poteau is 6-1 overall and 3-1 in district play. If the Pirates can keep from looking ahead to the Broken Bow and Hilldale games, this one should be over at halftime, despite the best efforts of all 20 Rogers fans who make the trip from Tulsa. POTEAU 64, ROGERS 12.
HUGO AT PANAMA—Panama has to keep winning with the strangeness of the district. The Razorbacks could win the district by beating Hugo and Spiro, or fall to playing on the road in the playoffs. A win over Hugo sets up a huge showdown with Spiro next week. Hugo is probably looking forward to basketball. PANAMA 42, HUGO 21.
SPIRO AT ANTLERS—Spiro can’t afford a second straight loss if the Bulldogs are wanting to win the district or at least stay in the top two with games against Panama and Hartshorne coming up. Antlers is not the easiest place to win. SPIRO 32, ANTLERS 30.
WARNER AT TALIHINA—We don’t do a lock of the week, although this one and the Poteau game would be it, if we did. Warner has actually been playing better after a rough start, but that momentum is fixing to come to a screeching halt. Talihina closes with Central and Savanna so the Golden Tigers should have the scrubs in by halftime. TALIHINA 42, WARNER 0.
POCOLA AT QUINTON—A matchup of struggling teams. Both teams will likely be enjoying basketball by the time the playoffs roll around. But it could be a good game. Key word: could. Pocola is moving up to 2A next year while Quinton is dropping down to 8-man. Still. QUINTON 21, POCOLA 20.
ARKOMA AT CAVE SPRINGS—Arkoma beat Watts by 48 points two weeks ago. Cave Springs beat Watts by six points last week. Hmm. If the Mustangs can overcome the Keota hangover, Arkoma will win. If the Mustangs keep winning, they will be at home in the first round of the playoffs. ARKOMA 44, CAVE SPRINGS 28.
BOKOSHE AT SASAKWA—Bokoshe goes to the town that sounds like somebody is sneezing. We’ll go the homer route in this encounter. SASAKWA 48, BOKOSHE 14.
