Five of the six LeFlore County teams that played Thursday won their games.
Poteau won big over Tulsa Rogers, Panama pummeled Hugo, Talihina won against Warner, Arkoma edged Cave Springs and Pocola had its best showing of the season against Quinton.
Bokoshe was the only team to lose, falling to Sasakwa. Spiro plays at Antlers on Friday while Heavener had a bye this week before hosting Stigler next week.
Poteau scored all its points in the first half of a 58-6 win over Tulsa Rogers. Jett Pitchford threw four touchdowns passes as the Pirates improved to 7-1 overall, 3-1 in district play. Hilldale’s 27-24 overtime win over Fort Gibson gave Poteau a chance to play for the district championship in two weeks against the Hornets.
Poteau plays at Broken Bow next week. Poteau, Broken Bow and Fort Gibson are all 3-1 in district play, one game behind Hilldale, which is 4-0.
Panama cruised to the easy win over Hugo, 41-0, giving the Razorbacks a chance to play for at least a share of the district championship next Thursday at Spiro. Panama improved to 8-1 and 4-1 while Hugo drops to 2-6 and 0-4.
Talihina (7-1, 4-0) also controls its destiny after an easy 64-20 win over Warner (1-7, 1-3). The Golden Tigers play for the district championship at Central next week. Central had a bye this week and is also 4-0 in district play. Gore defeated Savanna on Thursday, leaving both teams with two district losses.
Pocola got its offense going in a 46-8 win at Quinton. The Indians improve to 2-6 and 1-4 while the Savages drop to 2-6 and 1-4.
Arkoma handed Cave Springs its first district loss with a 58-50 win. The Mustangs can finish second in the district and play at home in the opening round of the playoffs with wins over Gans and Porum. Arkoma is now 5-3 and 2-1 while Cave Springs falls to 4-4 and 2-1.
Bokoshe came up short against Sasakwa, 66-18. The Tigers drop to 1-7 and 1-4 while Sasakwa improves to 3-5 and 2-3.
