OKLAHOMA CITY—Howe took the lead early and held it for most of the game before top-ranked Dale rallied to defeat the Lady Lions in the opening round of the Class 2A fast-pitch state softball tournament on Thursday.
Dale improves to 37-2 and plays Drumright on Friday in the semifinals. Ninth-ranked Howe ends its season at 29-12.
Howe scored twice in the first inning to take the lead. Zoe Nation led off by reaching base on an error. Jalei Oglesby singled before Sydnie Womack singled to bring in both runners.
Dale scored once in the fourth before scoring three times in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead.
Oglesby was 2-3 with a run and Womack finished 1-2 with two RBI. Makaleagh Lewis went the distance for Howe, pitching 6.0 innings with eight hits.
