ANTLERS—Antlers jumped ahead 22-0 at the half and made a bigger mess of the 2A-6 race with a 30-14 win over Spiro on Friday.
This was the only game involving LeFlore County teams on Friday. Heavener had a bye this week while five of the six county teams that played this week won on Thursday (see STORY).
The loss knocked Spiro out of a share of first place in the district. After this week’s games, Panama and Hartshorne share a lead in the district at 4-1 while Spiro, Valliant and Antlers are all 2-2.
Panama could clinch the district championship with a win at Spiro on Thursday in the Razorbacks’ final game of the season. Panama won the head-to-head matchup with Hartshorne earlier in the year.
Spiro (2-6) still has games with the Razorbacks and Hartshorne so the Bulldogs need to win both games to make sure they make the playoffs.
After trailing big at the half, Spiro cut into the deficit with a 57-yard scoring run by Deonte Braggs early in the third quarter to trim Antlers’ lead to 22-8.
The Bearcats answered on their following drive for a 30-8 lead. Spiro’s final score came on a 34-yard run by Malik Robertson in the third quarter.
