POTEAU—Poteau voters will go to the ballots on Sept. 12 to vote on a $22,930,000 bond issue for Poteau Public Schools.
Impact on property holders goes from an annual increase of $13.80 on $100 annual tax payments to $275.99 if your annual tax amount is $2,000.
There are four projects included. Project 1 would be for a seventh and eighth grade academic center, a two-story building on Mockingbird Lane. According to information from Poteau Public Schools, this would provide relief from overcrowding at the upper elementary and primary schools as the fifth grade would move to the middle school and the second grade would move to the upper elementary.
It would also include a new kitchen and cafeteria along with increased technology capabilities.
Project 2 would provide new classrooms for Poteau High School with 13 new rooms in the main hallway, three renovated classrooms in the Kidd Center along with three new classrooms in the Event Center, including a telecommunications lab. The project would expand cafeteria space, eliminate leaks in hallways and rooms and provide room to expand to more classrooms.
Project 3 is for a performing arts center in the renovation of the Kidd Center with new lighting and audio systems, an extended stage to accommodate band, chorus and drama performances, seating capacities of over 400 and elevated seating.
Project 4 would build a new Event Center with multi-level seating, oval-arena style seating, concessions, telecommunications lab, a new facility for basketball, wrestling and community activities, locker rooms, graduation activities and fully air conditioned.
