Harold and Jane Sanders will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday. All family and friends are invited to join as they are honored from 2 to 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Heavener.
They were married by the justice of the peace on March 28, 1967 in Columbus, Ga. He was stationed at Fort Benning at the time and the couple resided in Seale, Ala.
They were soon transferred to Fort Rucker, Ala. where their daughters Rochelle Sanders of Broken Arrow and Kelli Pitchford of Poteau were born.
He served 8 1/2 years in the United States Army, serving 26 months in Vietnam. They moved back to Heavener in 1971 where he took a job as a machinist for Kansas City Southern Railroad.
He retired from KCS in 2003. She took a part-time job for State National Bank before going full-time where she remained until the bank merged with First National Bank. She continued to work for FNB until retiring in 2010.
She is currently working part-time as the financial secretary at First Baptist Church in Heavener. The Sanders enjoy volunteering at the church, spending time with their friends and family and watching their grandchildren play sports and various other activities.
