The Heavener Utilities Authority and City Council gave approval to the 2016-2017 budgets at a meeting Thursday evening.
Both the HUA and Council approved the fiscal year budgets.
Also, the Council hired Cheryl Boggs as the new administrative assistant for the police department following an executive session.
Council members gave the approval for the new position after deciding to do away with the city’s dispatchers and go with LeFlore County’s dispatching service, which was effective on Thursday.
All dispatchers were released from their positions with the city, also effective on Thursday.
City manager Cody Smith informed the HUA and Council that there will be a loss for equipment and materials from the fire last week at the maintenance barn.
Total cost of all parts, material and equipment was $137,000 while the insurance policy only covered $38,500. The adjuster has not given a total amount which will be paid for the building, which was heavily damaged in the fire.
Ironically, the city was going over the values of the policies when the fire happened, trying to come up with an accurate value. While waiting for the insurance proceeds, the HUA will borrow equipment and materials from the Howe Water Department and the PVIA.
