A special meeting for the Heavener City Council which was scheduled for Tuesday was postponed until Thursday.
The council was scheduled to go into executive session to discuss the termination of water superintendent/interim public works director Tim DeWitt.
Also, the council was supposed to go over the resignation of council person Gail Nichols, who is resigning from the council to avoid any possibility of nepotism as DeWitt is her son-in-law.
In addition, the council was to discuss the rehiring of DeWitt along with appointing Don Martin as interim city manager to replace Larry Jones, who resigned two weeks ago prior to the scheduled city council meeting without notice.
Martin was in charge of Veolia, which maintained the Heavener water and sewer. Jones ended Veolia’s contract with the city, which is expected to generate a large savings to the city.
Martin resigned from Veolia at that time to concentrate on his preaching duties and to serve as a contractor for the city with the water and sewer department, if needed.
According to a representative from the city, Tuesday’s meeting was postponed as Mayor Troy Dyer was going to be late getting back to town. Attempts to reach Dyer Tuesday night were unsuccessful.
Another special meeting was scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m.
