PORUM—Wister’s girls clinched a spot in the 3A slow-pitch softball state tournament by finishing second at the regional tournament here on Thursday.
The No. 12 Lady Wildcats downed ninth-ranked Preston, 9-3, in the regional consolation championship game to once again make reservations to the state tournament.
Wister opened the tournament with a 8-6 win over fourth-ranked Porum and then the Lady Wildcats fell to No. 5 Barnsdall, 7-3.
In the win over Preston, Sooner Vanhook went 3-3 while Hunter Gibson had a 3-4 game. Kyla Brown, Kati Patterson and Stevee McMillin were each 2-4.
Wister had the lead over Barnsdall before allowing all seven runs to score in the fifth inning. Justyn Lynn was 2-3 for the Lady Wildcats.
Against Porum, Gibson and Patterson both scored a run in the 10th inning to give Wister the win.
Brown went 3-5 to lead Wister at the plate while Vanhook went 2-4 and Patterson and Ciera Covey were both 2-5.
