POTEAU—Justice Goldman and Brynn Hammon both homered as Poteau bounced back from an opening loss to down Muldrow, 14-4, and force a third game in a 4A district tournament here on Thursday.
The Pirates and Muldrow will play at 3 p.m. on Friday with the winner advancing to the regional tournament next week.
After Poteau had won both regular-season games from Muldrow, the Bulldogs took Thursday’s opener, 4-3, by scoring two runs in both the third and fourth innings.
Ben Klutts was 2-4 for the Pirates while Hammon had a double and struck out six in 4.2 innings of relief work.
The Pirates took the lead early in the second game by scoring once in the first before adding six more runs in the second inning. Poteau ended the game by run rule by scoring four times in the top of the sixth.
Goldman hit a solo homer, doubled and was 2-3 with four runs scored and three RBI. Hammon also had a home run and a double and went 2-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Jake McMillin knocked in five runs and went 3-5 with a run scored and Mason Grimm was 2-5 with two RBI and a run scored.
