The council also agreed to vacate a portion of the road at Gretna Lane and Choctaw Ave. The Masonic Lodge plans to build an RV park on a portion of the road between the Lodge and Paradise Fitness Center.
The city will retain an easement. City manager Larry Jones said he believes this will encourage other development in the area.
Jones also reported the Heavener Fire Department will have to cover the south part of Howe since the Howe Fire Department is not currently in operation. Poteau will cover the north half of the area.
He also said officials have reopened the Old Pike Road with the new bridge and KCS will begin repaving a portion of the road in the next six to eighth weeks.
The new splash pad should also start construction soon as the contractor is finishing up his performance bond and will then get started.
Jones also said that Mike Vickers has resigned from the Heavener Utilities Authority and a new person will need to come aboard to replace him.
