WISTER—Wister likely clinched the top spot for next week’s baseball LeFlore County Tournament with a 6-2 win over Poteau on Tuesday afternoon.
The win improves the Wildcats to 11-1 while Poteau drops to 9-4. Wister is currently eighth in Class 2A.
The seeding meeting for the LCJ is Wednesday at 9 a.m. Wister and Poteau had gotten off to the best starts in the county and the win should put the Wildcats in the top spot for the tournament.
Cash Balentine was the winning pitcher for Wister, holding Poteau to only seven hits while Gary Price got the loss for Poteau.
Wister took the lead in the bottom of the second by scoring three runs. Poteau countered with a pair of runs in the top of the third on a double by Ben Klutts, which brought in two runs.
But the Pirates were blanked from that point on while Wister added two runs in the fourth and another in the sixth.
Jake Sconyers led Wister by going 2-3. Kale Barcheers was 2-4 with a double for Poteau, Brynn Hammond went 2-2 and Klutts was 1-3.
Wister is at Seminole on Saturday against the Chieftains and Sulphur. Poteau goes to Stigler on Thursday.
