The top two seeds for the 2015 baseball LeFlore County Tournament survived Tuesday’s games to advance to the winner’s bracket finals on Thursday.
Top-seeded Wister edged fourth-seeded Panama, 2-1, while second-seeded Poteau had to come from behind to down third-seeded Spiro, 12-7, in the late game.
Wister and Poteau will play on Thursday at 8 p.m. with the winner moving one game away from claiming the LCT.
Heavener and Cameron also stayed alive through the loser’s bracket. The Wolves downed Howe, 9-1, then defeated Pocola in the late game, 3-1.
Cameron edged Whitesboro, 4-3, before downing LeFlore, 8-3.
All games on Thursday will be played at Howe. Heavener plays Panama at 4 p.m. with Spiro hooking up with Cameron at 6 p.m.
Also on Tuesday, LeFlore won its early game 12-0 over Bokoshe while Pocola held off Arkoma, 7-5.
Cash Balantine was the winning pitcher for Wister in the win over Panama. He went the first six innings and struck out four before getting relief help from Scotty Gibson.
Tristan Thompson got the loss for Panama, despite going the distance and striking out nine.
Jake Sconyers led Wister at the plate by going 2-3 while Wesley Wisdom doubled, Ethan Billings had a triple and Koby Midgley was 2-3 with a double and run scored.
Thompson, Gabe Harp and Zack Timms all had singles for Panama.
Poteau trailed against Spiro 5-2 before rallying by scoring three runs in the third and five more in the fourth. Ben Klutts was the winning pitcher for Poteau with help from Roger Barcheers.
Klutts went the first four innings before Barcheers threw the final three. Dru Didway got the loss for the Bulldogs.
Gary Price was 1-4 with a home run and four RBI for the Pirates. Kade McMillin, Klutts, Mason Grimm, Kale Barcheers and Hunter Bradshaw all singled for Poteau.
Didway was 2-4 with a double and two RBI for Spiro and Nick Hatfield was 2-4.
In a close game at Heavener, the Wolves’ Corry Duncan got the edge in a tight pitcher’s duel with Pocola’s Kyler Helms.
Both pitchers went the distance. Duncan allowed five hits and struck out seven while Helms only allowed six hits and struck out six.
Pocola took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Britt Ozeroglu led off with a single and scored on a single by Kyler Ree.
Heavener tied the score in the top of the third. Dillion May doubled with one out and scored from third on a double steal.
The Wolves took the lead in the fifth. Duncan led off with a double to right. Noah Davis sacrificed courtesy runner Ashton Wright to second and he scored on a single by Trey Grubbs.
Hunter Tiffee led off the sixth with a single. After a pair of sacrifices, Duncan rifled a single to left field to bring in the final run.
Duncan helped his cause at the plate by going 2-3 with a RBI while May was 2-4 with a run scored. Ree was 2-3 with a RBI for the Indians.
