RED OAK–Whitesboro was finally able to get its slow-pitch softball season started Monday and split with Red Oak. Red Oak took the first game 7-2 and the Lady Bulldogs rallied late for a 9-8 victory in the second game of the doubleheader.
In the first contest, Red Oak scored two runs in the first, added four in the second and the final run in the fourth.
Whitesboro got on the board in the third when Emily Wall reached on a fielder’s choice then later scored on a single to left by Lexey Branscum. The Lady Bulldogs added their other run in the seventh when Molly Young reached on a Lady Eagle error then later scored on a single up the middle by Breanna Gibson.
Gibson was the losing pitcher.
Lauren Harper was 2-3 for the Lady Bulldogs, Branscum was 1-3 with a RBI and Gibson went 1-4 with one RBI, Young had a 1-3 game and scored a run, Bailee McConnell was 1-2, Amanda Carver went 1-3, Mariah Frederick finished 1-4 and Wall scored a run.
In the late game, Red Oak scored five runs in the first and added three more in the third. Whitesboro counted with a run in the first, two in the third, one in the fourth before scoring five times in the seventh for the win.
Frederick scored in the 1st on a hit by Gibson.
In the third, Frederick & Branscum hit back to back singles to left then scored on a double by Gibson.
McConnell scored the run in the fourth on a single by Gibson.
Wall’s two-out single in the seventh scored Carver and Harper. With the bases loaded, Frederick got a hit to score Molly Young. Wall and McConnell scored on a fielder’s choice by Branscum with the bases loaded that turned into a Lady Eagle error and put the Lady Bulldogs in the lead.
Abigail Phillips was the winning pitcher. Frederick finished 3-5 with one RBI and two runs, Gibson also went 3-5 with three RBI and a double, Wall knocked in two RBI and scored a run while going 1-2, Carver went 1-3 with a RBI and run scored, McConnell scored twice while going 1-3, Harper had one hit in two at bats and scored a run and Branscum batted in two runs and scored once.
