YUKON—Talihina’s hopes of winning the 2A state basketball tournament came to an end on Friday in the semifinals as Wewoka downed the Golden Tigers, 71-60.
Wewoka advances to the championship game against Preston, a 76-74 winner over Chouteau in the early game on Friday in four overtimes.
The Golden Tigers defeated Preston for the area championship last Saturday, 45-41.
Wewoka took the lead for good against Talihina late in the second quarter. With the two teams tied at 17 after a 3-point basket by Trey Hawkins, Wewoka ended the quarter on a 10-2 run to lead 27-19 at the half.
Wewoka outscored Talihina, 17-10, in the third quarter to build the lead to 17 points going into the final period.
Talihina made a run in the fourth quarter, outscoring Wewoka 19-5, to cut the deficit to three points on a 3-point basket by Alan Lockhart.
Wewoka responded, outscoring Talihina down the stretch to put the game away.
In his final game, Lockhart led the Tigers with 18 points. Talihina also reached the Class A semifinals in football.
