POTEAU–Carl Albert State College and Choctaw Nation have again partnered to host the Vike Hike half marathon and 5k in Poteau.
This year’s Vike Hike is set for March 28. Runners can register online at eventbrite.com.
While the 5k race is already sold out, there are open spots remaining in the half marathon and the Vike Brick. Participating in the Vike Brick is a challenge as runners will complete the half marathon, which begins at 7 a.m. and then take off in the 5k at 9 a.m.
The registration deadline is March 15. The course will begin and end on the campus of CASC. The course will include hills along the bypass, then travel near the Choctaw Country Club and return to campus, remaining inside the city limits at all times.
Runners will cross one intersection on a four-lane highway, which will be closed and monitored by city police. The last three and a half miles will be open road but monitored.
Northbound lanes of the bypass will be shut down from 7 to 11 a.m. in accordance with Oklahoma State Department of Transportation.
All participants will receive medals and Vike Hike T-shirts. Awards will also be given to the top three in each age and gender division. Overall fastest male and female will receive cash awards. Half marathon registrants must be at least 16 years old.
Speaking for the College and the Choctaw Nation, Hali Repass said, “CASC and Choctaw Nation are excited to yet again bring fun, fitness and community together.”
