For the sixth time in eight years, Talihina’s boys will compete in the Class 2A state tournament starting on Thursday.
The Golden Tigers open with Merritt at 3:30 p.m. in Yukon.
Talihina 17-10 and ranked 14th, came out of what was probably the toughest area in the state by winning the area championship with a 45-41 win over Preston on Saturday. En route to the championship, the Tigers defeated 12th ranked Howe, fourth-ranked Haworth and third-ranked Preston.
Merritt is ranked 15th and enters the tournament with a 21-7 record. Merritt defeated Christian Heritage in the consolation championship game on Tuesday after losing to Hollis for the area championship.
