YUKON—Talihina’s boys advanced to the Class 2A semifinals with a 53-34 win over Merritt on Thursday afternoon.
The Golden Tigers will take on Wewoka at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in the semifinals. Wewoka opened with a 61-44 victory over Oklahoma Bible in the first game of the tournament. This will be a rematch of a regional game two years ago won by Talihina.
Also in the first round, Chouteau stayed undefeated with a 46-40 win over Kiefer and Preston advanced with a 76-57 victory. Chouteau and Preston play at 6 p.m. on Friday with the championship game set for Saturday at 9 p.m. at the State Fair Arena.
Talihina scored the first 12 points of the game against Merritt and the Tigers eventually led 16-2 before settling for a 25-13 lead at the half as Keaton Jackson scored 11 first-half points for Talihina.
The Tigers went on a 6-0 run early in the third quarter and the closest Merritt could come after that was 13 points.
Alan Lockhart led Talihina with 18 points while Jackson finished with 13.
