Last year, four LeFlore County basketball teams reached the state tournament.
This year, Talihina has already qualified after a 45-41 win over Preston in the 2A area tournament (see STORY).
The Spiro boys and Howe girls will try to add to that total Monday in area consolation championships.
Spiro gets another shot at Sequoyah Tahlequah in the 3A area at Quinton at 8 p.m. with the winner advancing to the state tournament. In the regional finals last week, Sequoyah edged the Bulldogs in overtime, 71-68.
Sequoyah lost to Atoka in the area championship game on Saturday, 70-60. Spiro has won two games in consolation play over Kingston and Idabel (see STORY) to move within one win of a second straight trip to the state tournament.
The game starts at approximately 8 p.m.
In Wilburton, the Howe girls will try to bounce back from Saturday’s loss to third-ranked Preston for the area championship (see STORY) when the Lady Lions take on Quinton with the winner moving on to the state tournament on Thursday.
The two teams played on Feb. 13 in Howe with the Lady Lions winning, 53-42. Howe is 26-2 and ranked sixth while Quinton is 23-4 and ninth. Tipoff at Wilburton High School is at 6:30 p.m.
