CAMERON—Memorial service for Richard Edward Montgomery, 69, of Cameron are Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Vietnam War Memorial at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau with Mike Wilson officiating.
Services are under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.
He was born April 14, 1945 in Little Hocking, Ohio to Carl and Catherine (Pickens) Montgomery and passed away March 7, 2015 in Cameron.
He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving his country in the Vietnam Era. After he was discharged, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he was an Aviation Electrician and was a highly decorated veteran in both branches of the service, receiving several awards, medals, and ribbons. In 1981 he received the Presidential Award from President Reagan for driving him in a motorcade.
He is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Montgomery of West Virginia and Shelly Risk of South Carolina; a son, Richard Swiontek and wife Joni of Cameron; six grandchildren, Morgan, Michael, Madison, Ashley, Hayes and Kaitlyn; and special friends, Mike and Linda Wilson of Cameron, Mark and Diana Shipman of Cameron, Mike, Jr. and Daryl Ann Wilson of Poteau, Toby and Stephanie Wilson of Cameron, Derek Wilson of Cameron, Cody Wilson of Cameron, Andy Wilson of Cameron and Taby Wilson of Poteau.
