MUSKOGEE—Salina’s girls hit seven 3-point baskets and held off a late rally by Heavener to defeat the Lady Wolves, 48-38, in the 3A regional consolation championship game Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Wildcats move on to the 3A area tournament in Quinton, which is supposed to start Thursday, while Heavener’s girls close out their season with a 17-8 record.
Aside from a few seconds early in the second quarter, Salina led the entire game. The Lady Wildcats led 23-15 at the half and used a 12-4 run early in the third quarter to build a 15-point lead.
Heavener turned to a more aggressive defense and rallied to pull within four points with 5:05 left after going on a 9-0 run.
Salina scored the next six points to put the game away as Heavener could not get any closer.
The big difference in the game was the outside shooting by the Lady Wildcats as they hit seven 3’s while Heavener never made a shot from beyond the three-point line.
Courtney Condit led Salina with 14 points and Morgan Littlefield added 11.
Heavener was led by Jodie Hill’s 12 points. Sydney Crase added 10.
Despite the loss, the future is bright for Heavener as all five starters return and the Lady Wolves only lose one senior in Reagan Alexander.
