Heavener Chamber gets grant
Keep Oklahoma Beautiful (KOB) has notified the Heavener Chamber of Commerce that their Great American Cleanup™ (GAC) in Oklahoma effort this spring has been awarded a 2015 OGE Start Up Grant.
The group is among 26 groups across the state that have been selected to receive a $200 Start-Up or $300 Growth cash award made possible by OGE Energy Corp.
Heavener Chamber of Commerce will use the grant funds to support the purchase of promotional materials, refreshments and awards for volunteers.
The Chamber will pick up trash along three major highways and in local neighborhoods on April 11. Refreshments will be before and after the clean up with volunteer awards and press coverage provided by the local newspaper.
“Last year we did almost the whole town and plan to do it all this year,” said Melinda Ballantine, Heavener Chamber of Commerce Manager. “We expect to beat our record of last year as well as increase public awareness of cleanup efforts.”
Heavener Chamber of Commerce will join 200 groups and 50,000 volunteers across Oklahoma, in every county, to take part in the Great American Cleanup™ in Oklahoma in 2015. KOB encourages all cities and organizations to commit to beautifying their communities year round, but places an emphasis on it during the GAC from March 1 – May 31.
