WISTER—Funeral services for Gerald “Jerry” Allen Nelson, 79, of Wister, are Monday at 2 p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church in Wister with Bro. Clyde Steelman and Bro. Jack Covey officiating.
Burial will follow at the Ellis Chapel Cemetery in Wister, under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home.
He passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015 in Poteau and was born in Poteau on Nov. 7, 1935 to Albert and Versa (Hensley) Nelson. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Wister ande worked as a carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Artha Smith, Frances Gregory and Lavera Hicks; and four brothers, James, Joe, Merrel and Darrell Nelson.
Survivors include his wife, Eula Mae, of the home; children, Rita Jones of Poteau, Brenda and Jack Martin, Freddy and Pat Nelson, Nikki Nelson and Phil Hamlin, all of Wister, and Eddie and Lisa Nelson of Howe; 11 grandchildren Eric McClain, Wade and Jake Knight, Amber McGowen, Ashlie Nelson, Autumn Goad, Christine Ginther, Tyler Nelson, Whitney Wellman, and Justin and Bailie Hamlin; 14 great grandchildren and one “tater” on the way; and a brother, Charles Wayne Nelson, of Noble.
Pallbearers are Jim Knight, Tyler Nelson, John Jones, Doug Percifield, Trent Wellman, Randy Ginther and Justin Hamlin. Honorary pallbearers are Eric McClain, Alston Washburn, Jake Knight, Wade Knight, Shawn Goad, Wes McGowen, Bruce McClain, Bill Bullard and Howard Cagle.
