With the top four ranked teams done for the season, a wide open Class 2A boys state tournament will tip off on Thursday at Yukon.
Quarterfinal action starts at 2 p.m. After area play concluded, fifth-ranked Preston, which lost to Talihina in the area championship game, is the highest ranked team.
Oklahoma Bible Academy (26-4 and No. 16) opens the tournament at 2 p.m. against Wewoka (21-6 and No. 8)
Talihina (17-10 and No. 14) plays Merritt (21-7 and No. 15) at 3:30 p.m.
At 7 p.m., Preston (25-5) takes on Hollis (23-4 and unranked) while the final game pits undefeated and sixth-ranked Chouteau against Kiefer (24-3 and No. 9)
Semifinal play continues on Friday at Yukon with the Chouteau/Kiefer winner playing the Preston/Hollis winner at 6 p.m. and the Talihina/Merritt victor taking on the survivor of the Oklahoma Bible/Wewoka winner at 7:30 p.m.
Talihina is in the state tournament for the sixth time in the last eight years. The Golden Tigers got a late start due to the football team making the semifinals and an injury-plagued season.
At one point, the Tigers lost six of seven games due to the injuries and a rugged schedule. Talihina righted its ship and won the toughest area in the state with wins over No. 12 Talihina, fourth-ranked Haworth and the area win over Preston.
