The city of Heavener will host an open house on Thursday starting at 3 p.m. to honor Gail Loar, who is retiring after serving as the city clerk for over 25 years.
Finger foods and refreshments will be served. The open house will last until the visitors stop coming.
She started as city clerk on July 29, 1989. At that time, Heavener did not have a council due the group resigning in protest. Oran Coffman was the mayor.
Loar has served under five different city managers (Larry Jones, Mike Kennerson, Paul Evans, Roger Wood and Earl Burson) and witnessed the move to the new city hall and many other changes to the community.
She is a 1967 graduate of Heavener High School.
