HARTFORD—Heavener’s girls overcame a slow start to defeat Hackett, 33-26, in the opening round of the Gary Ford Invitational here Tuesday night.
The Lady Wolves advance to play Oden on Thursday at 4 p.m. in the semifinals. The finals are Saturday afternoon.
After falling behind 22-17 late in the third quarter, Heavener (1-0) went on a 10-2 run to take the lead after Jodie Hill scored seven straight points to put the Lady Wolves ahead for good.
Hackett, which dropped to 5-1 with the loss, cut the margin to 27-26 before Heavener closed with a 7-2 run and held the Lady Hornets scoreless over the final 5:02 of the game.
Hill led Heavener with 13 points. Jacee Manley, Makenzie Wilson and Reagan Alexander each scored five points.
