And a Happy December 1 to all of you. Only 24 days left until Christmas, as hard as that is to believe.
Plus, 2015 is only a month away.
The Heavener and Poteau Christmas parades are on Saturday. Heavener’s parade is at 2 p.m. and the Poteau parade is at 6 p.m. There is still plenty of time to get in the Heavener parade. We have had entry forms in the Ledger the last few weeks.
It doesn’t matter if you are a business, church, group, etc., get entered! Send your form to the Chamber of call them at (918) 653-4303.
Heavener starts its basketball season on Tuesday in the Hartford tournament. Both Heavener teams play Hackett with the girls tipping off at 4 p.m. with the Wolves taking the court at around 5:30 p.m.
It is a short trip to Hartford so hopefully there will be a good crowd.
I was sorry to hear about the passing of Bill Kinsey. He was a teacher and coach at Heavener for a long time and just a great guy.
I first got the chance to meet him when he started helping out with our baseball team and then the football team.
He left a lot of great memories for those of us fortunate to know him. A memorial service is Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church.
Congratulations to Talihina for advancing to the Class A semifinals after the 28-8 win at Ringling on Friday.
The Golden Tigers play Cashion at 7 p.m. in Glenpool. This will be the third straight year Talihina and Cashion will meet in the playoffs.
Both previous matchups were in the quarterfinals. Two years ago in Talihina, Cashion won 43-24. Last year, the Tigers returned the favor with a 22-20 win at Cashion.
Talihina has only lost two games after the past three years and avenged the loss the following year. The Tigers won at Ringling on Friday after losing to the Blue Devils in the semifinals last year and defeated Cashion last year after losing the prior season.
Just a reminder to be careful if you are trying to burn brush or leaves. There was a big fire out on Morris Creek on Saturday which was estimated to be around 100 acres. The Heavener, Hodgen, Howe and Monroe fire departments responded to the fire.
We had not had rain for over a week and the winds were blowing some 20 mph so it was not the best time to try and burn anything.
