The Heavener Wolf Pups’ third and fourth grade team advanced to the league finals with a 12-0 win over Charleston on Saturday at Harvey Stadium.
The Wolf Pups will take on the Booneville and Lavaca winner on Saturday at Paris to determine the league champion.
Heavener avenged its lone loss of the season with the win over Charleston. The Wolf Pups got a pair of touchdowns from C.J. Halford and used a stiff defense to keep the visitors from scoring.
On their opening drive, the Wolf Pups converted two fourth-and-long plays to keep the drive alive and scored on a 1-yard blast by Halford. The score was set up by a nice catch by Jacob Vickers at the 1.
Charleston drove to Heavener’s 25 on its next possession and to the Wolf Pups’ 5 before the Tigers were stopped as the clock ran out.
With Heavener still leading 6-0 late, the Wolf Pups’ Florentino Ramirez Jr. recovered a fumble to end the threat and Halford broke free for a 52-yard touchdown run with 6.9 seconds left to put the game away.
