The sixth through eighth grade Heavener academic teams traveled to Stilwell on Oct. 29.
These groups competed individually in a SCORE competition. This competition consisted of four subject matter tests that contained 50 questions.
They were given between 20 and 30 minutes to complete each test. The competition awarded first through sixth place ribbons based on the total number of questions that were answered correctly.
Heavener received nine ribbons. Sixth grader Elijah Cook brought home two of these ribbons, third place in math and fourth place in social studies. He qualified for the state competition in math.
Jasmine Aguilar, also a sixth grader, brought home the third-place ribbon in social studies, which qualified her for state as well. Trent Hildebrant, sixth grade, brought home a sixth-place ribbon in social studies. Seventh grader, Edwin Martinez brought home the fifth-place ribbon in social studies.
Eighth grader Kystro Moore brought home two ribbons, one for fifth place in science and one for fifth-place English. Lake Psencik, also an eighth grader, brought home the third-place ribbon for English, which qualified her for state.
Another eighth grader, Seth Anderson, was awarded sixth place for math. They will continue competing and attempting to qualify for state competition in the months ahead.
