I was at the school yesterday and got to see work progressing on the stage at the Heavener gym.
That will be a welcome change. The installation of the new bleachers with chair back seats on the east and west sides should start soon.
With the new seats, the gym is losing approximately 200 seats, which will be made up with the bleachers on the stage. This should also help the home-court advantage if the students sit on the stage, make noise and try to distract the shooters for the other teams.
I also got a little tour of one of the new classroom buildings for the seventh and eighth grade. Wow, that was nice. It has a safe room built in, all new equipment, etc. The science room was awesome.
Heavener schools now have three safe rooms in case of threatening weather for the students and the communities. Most communities don’t even have one.
We have been getting the how to cook a turkey letters from local schools over the last week or so. I try not to read all of them, but they are great. I have found many new ways to cook a turkey, ranging from put it in the microwave for five seconds, to add ketchup and cook for a few minutes.
It turns out we have more hunters than I knew of. Several fathers go out and kill their turkey instead of buying it at the store. That might not be entirely true, but it sounds good at least. There are also a few what they are thankful for letters also.
Hope you enjoy them.
