The Haw Creek Fire Association fall festival is being held at the Haw Creek Community Center. Lots of food and games.
The Heavener Wolf Pups are in the playoffs. The younger Wolf Pups host Ozark at 4:30 p.m. while the fifth and sixth grade team plays at Ozark at noon.
Also, the basketball season gets going tonight with Wister visiting Red Oak and LeFlore traveling to Indianola.
It was a tad chilly at the football game last night. Okay, it was cold. Temperatures that were 40 to 50 degrees less than earlier in the week made it feel even worse.
Somebody made the comment about how much nicer it would be if the Wolves were playing Panama, Pocola, Wilburton, etc. I do miss seeing Heavener playing those old foes, but I also enjoy seeing Heavener play the bigger and better teams like Beggs.
No, it won’t help Heavener’s record. But it does provide the fans and players an opportunity to compete against some really good teams.
Heavener closes out the 2014 season next week at home against Idabel. And no, Idabel won’t be an easier opponent than Beggs, but hopefully the tough schedule will help the Wolves for the 2015 season.
LeFlore County football fans will likely have to hit the road to watch any playoff games. Talihina will play at home while Poteau and Spiro will be on the road. The other playoff team, Panama, has the chance to host a first-round playoff game, but the Razorbacks must win at Vian on Thursday.
Having four out of the eight teams in the playoffs isn’t bad for the county. I can remember six teams making the playoffs, though. Talihina has the best shot for a deep run. The Golden Tigers reached the semifinals last year and if things go as expected, Talihina will be at home for the first three rounds.
Have a great weekend. We’ll be out at the Haw Creek festival and cover the Wolf Pups’ home game this afternoon.
