It’s Week 8 in the 2014 football season on Friday night and Heavener travels to Spiro in a battle between two teams fighting to stay alive for a playoff spot.
The Wolves are 2-5 and 1-3 while Spiro is 4-2 and 1-2 in district play. Heavener must win its final two district games against Spiro and then Idabel on Nov. 7 and will probably need to win both contests by at least 15 points.
That will be difficult, especially against Spiro with the 10 starters suspended for the game for leaving the bench in last week’s game against Roland when a brief altercation broke out on the field.
After starting 4-0, Spiro has lost its last two games against Eufaula and Idabel, putting the Bulldogs in a must-win situation against the Wolves. Spiro’s non-district game against Stroud two weeks ago was cancelled due to the bad weather.
Heavener is back at Harvey Stadium next week in a non-district game against 3A power Beggs before closing out the regular season at home in Week 10 against Idabel.
