I’m looking out the window and watching the motorcycles go by on this beautiful fall day. I’m sure they have been riding on Talimena Scenic Drive and looking at the view and the wonderful fall colors. This is definitely a gateway city to the mountains.
And as such, I was sure we would have a good response to the Arts, Crafts and Antiques Fair we were planning for Saturday and Sunday. Alas, it is not to be. I have had little response from vendors for the fair so it has been cancelled. I was really trying to get this tradition started again, but I am apparently not doing something right. Anyway, we will not be having the Arts and Crafts show this year. However, we do have plans for other activities and we will continue with them
On Saturday, the Haw Creek Fire Association will be having their Fall Festival beginning at 11 a.m. in Haw Creek. On Nov. 8, Poteau will host its Veteran’s Day Parade beginning at 10 a.m. The parade will take its usual course from CASC and go through downtown Poteau.
After the parade a spaghetti dinner will be served at the Bob Lee Kidd center provided by the county Veteran’s groups.
The Lights on the Island at Lake Wister State Park is Nov. 22 through Dec. 24. Every evening the Park will be lit up with Christmas lights and decorations. This event is free but donations are very much appreciated.
On Dec. 6 will be the annual Christmas parade at 2 p.m. in Heavener and 6 p.m. in Poteau. This year’s theme is Fairy Tale Christmas. Make plans now to build a float or decorate your horse or car, lawnmower or tractor and be in the parade. Prizes will be given in several categories and participation is free. Let’s make our parade the biggest ever and hope the weather cooperates this year.
Santa and the Heavener Lions Club will be at the library after the parade to give out Christmas goodies and take pictures. The morning of Dec. 6, the Friends of the Heavener Runestone will have their annual radio auction to raise money for the park and provide some great Christmas gifts for our listeners.
There will be a complete list of items in the paper the week before the auction so you can be ready to bid. Dec. 14 at 4 p.m. the KCS Holiday Express Train will arrive bringing Santa and his elves on the most beautiful Christmas train you ever did see. Make plans to load up the kids and visit the train.
Welcome to Hwy. 128 Bar & Grill as a new Chamber member. Ed and Linda are very supportive of the area and we truly welcome them as new members. If you would like to be a member of the Chamber, just give us a call and we will make it happen. Have a safe and fun filled Halloween and join in on all the activities in the area.
