Good morning and here is today’s daily detail. In case you missed it, every day I try to write a column exclusively for heavenerledger.com.
Don’t fault Heavener’s effort in the Wolves; 46-14 loss at Spiro last night.
Even at full strength, Heavener would have had a tough time staying with the Bulldogs, but I do believe it would have been a much closer game.
Spiro has two excellent players in McKinley Whitfield and D.T. Neal. Whitfield and Neal were just too fast for Heavener to keep up with.
Heavener was without some eight starters in the game. One big difference was in the offensive line with a pair of starters out. That made it tough for the Wolves to move the ball against a Spiro defense which has struggled at times this year.
Things don’t get much better for Heavener. The Wolves host Beggs on Friday in a non-district game before finishing up at home against Idabel.
The only two previous times Heavener and Beggs have played were in the playoffs with the Demons winning both times. Beggs is 7-1 and undefeated in district play. Idabel only has one loss, to Roland.
Friday’s loss knocked Heavener out of playoff contention. But the Wolves can still be a spoiler in the game with Idabel.
Kudos to all the Heavener fans who traveled to Spiro last night on a beautiful night for a football game.
Heavener has two runners in the state cross country meet today. Frank Cruz and Barbara Johnson are running at Shawnee. As soon as I get the results, it will be posted.
The Peter Conser home is celebrating its 120th anniversary today. There will be a quilt show, antique tractor show and much more.
The Heavener Wolf Pups are playing their final regular-season game today at Harvey Stadium against Waldron. The first game starts at 3 p.m. Both Heavener teams are in the playoffs with Saturday’s games determining playoff seedings. If you have not attended a Wolf Pup game before, I highly recommend you check it out. They are a lot of fun to watch. We will post updates on the Ledger’s Facebook page.
Finally, we will be at the Trail of Treats event at Lake Wister State Park to represent the Ledger and hand out candy to the little ones this evening. I was conned into being a judge for the costume contest, but who can say no to Leroy Billy. Stop by and say hello and pick up some goodies.
